One thing I have discovered is that most juvenile birds have drab and dull feathers. I did not think much about it until recently.

Now you see me.


Now you don't.


And before you start blaming the genes, the parents looks like this.


So the chicks blend in with the undergrowth. It is very logical if you consider that most of their predators are physically bigger than them and the predators will have to look down in order to see them.

The chickens are Red junglefowl. You can tell by the white ear patches on both the male and female.
