Shaking hands with the devil
8 years ago, a group of politicians publicly stated that that will do their best to frustrate the ruling party for having the adacity to come into power. They did their best to wreck the country with their falsehood and lack of governance. 8 years later, they have returned to power and they are requesting that the current opposition party works with them to govern the country.
If you are the Democratic party elected official, how would you want to work with the Conservatives? If you cave to the ruling party, you are likely to hurt the people that you were elected to represent. If you do not help the ruling party, you stand to be accused of being a traitor even though the Conservatives used the same strategy for the last 8 years.
Secondly, there are going to be some issues that you do not care about that you are will to trade votes for issues that your constituents care about. At some point, you have to stand for your principals. These points may conflict with your constituents or even the citizens of your country.
