The usual suspects

 I was seeing a bunch of grasshoppers recently.

So when this intruder hopped in, I was wondering why do some grasshoppers have a long antenna. Its cousins are breeding with shorter sensors. 

Yet the correct answer was that this insect is nocturnal which is why long antennas might not be an issue. Good luck seeing long sensors at night. It was why I needed a flash for this shot. 

I thought it was a cricket but it turned out that there is another relative called the katydids (Bush crickets, long-horned grasshopper). The name katydids is an onomatopoeia.
