Level Reached!

I have been trying to crack a level for several months. When one is stuck on a certain level in a game, one would go through the same steps as I did to crack it. I am not saying that you will need to go through the same steps but if you are stuck long enough, you will walk the same journey eventually.

Run around the problem (aka Denial)
One of the myths of gaming is that the difficulties levels are designed to be addictive. First, I have to admit there are some gamers that are obsessive. However, most gamers have to be attracted to the game in question before they are willing to start "grinding".

There is a reason why badly designed games (Games with poor design, counter-intuitive gaming logic, bad graphics or bad storylines) seldom get many fans even though completing the game can be a challenge.

In most games, if you are not able to crack a level, you are still able to play the game but you will just be stuck at a certain point or be forced to take another option. At this point, most gamers will tell themselves that the level does not matter and continue playing.

Headbanging (aka Anger)
The itch soon becomes unbearable. You will try to crack the level on a regular basis. At this time, you will decide to do one of two things. Most people will start with experimentation. You will try different combinations to see which works. This works on simple games. However, most games have a fairly complex game design so experimentation can only get you so far.

Thanks to Google (or Youtube), most gamers can research or copy other players solution. There is a catch in today's world. Most gamers that put up information on the internet usually have a lot of resources (game time/money) invested and thus able to put on a show on the internet (Or draft detailed solutions). At this point, you either copy your way to success or you feel even more frustrated as other gamers make it look so easy.  

Pony up the molah(aka Bargaining) 
Game designers are not stupid and they will do all they can to get the gamer to pay them. In the past, the game designers will release game guides to assist the player to crack levels. Today, most game designers devise in-game economies that allow one to purchase whatever item or solution or hero that they are lacking (or think they are lacking)

I am not ashamed to confess that I tried to pony up some cash but the hero that I purchased did not solve the problem. The problem with most in-game purchases is that they are temporary fixes to the problem. Or the game designers will introduce new levels to be attained to keep the thrill of the hunt.

Grinding (aka Depression)
This is when addition starts. You will find that you are spending most of your spare time attempting the level. You may decide to move back to the previous stages where you try more passionate attempts or pony up more cash. At this point, most outsiders will assume correctly that you are hooked.

You will feel that success is around the corner. The scent of victory is in the air but never in one's grasp.

Enlightenment (aka Acceptance)
You have cracked the level! Congratulations.👏

If you have given up after recognising the among of resources wasted, you have seen the light. Or you have seduced by a new game. For gamers, the war is never over, the enemies merely change faces. Me hear war drums. Me go to war.
