Z is for ......

I bet the reader is thinking I am going to talk about the bad-tempered zebra.

I decided to go for a harder topic which is the zebu. The previous article was about the Yak (Animal whose shit does not stink). The zebu is the warm weather endurance athlete of the bovine 🐮 family. It is called the humped cattle which like the camel, the hump is made of fat. It is also parasite and disease resistant.

It is likely to be one of the first known domesticated cattle in recorded history as its existence was recorded by the Indus Valley civilization. Records also show the bovine was in Eygpt 2000 years BC.

Of course, the heat tolerance has a few catches. The zebu is one of the smallest of its bovine cousin.

One final point. When Indians talk about the sacred cow, they are referring to the zebu.
