Fact of the week: Not birds of a feather
A long time ago, I understood that prawns and shrimps were referring to the same species. Except it turned out that prawns are not shrimps. Prawns have three sets of pincer legs while shrimps have only one set. Shrimps carry their fertilized eggs on their underbelly. Prawns let their eggs free range.
But it turned out that there is still a way to tell them apart even if their legs and head are removed. The shells are actually different. The prawns have shells that overlap all the way. while the shrimps' second shell will overlap the first and third.
