Both sides

See this guy.
It is a foreigner.
It does not matter how often he is in Singapore, his nest is in another country.
He also does not mind giving Singapore a miss if he needs. Singapore is just a stopover at best.

See this fine specimen.
It is a product of the mother land.
His nest is in Singapore and he will probably die without seeing another country.

Now before one suspects that I am using the birds as metaphor for some racist, xenophobic or nationalistic opinion; I am just talking animals.

The problem is that animals do not respect national boundaries. This makes it difficult to identify a local species. Swam to Singapore and made it your home. Welcome crocodiles.

So what about the wanderers? What about the kidnapped animals who are left in a new country? Or brought over as beast of burden and then found their role replaced?

The truth is that if one fits into the narrative, one is welcomed. Otherwise, keep walking.
