Maximum range

Now before anyone complains, I need to qualify a few things. 

I am aware of the maximum effective range of my camera. It is at least a fingernail size objects seen with naked eye. 

But I spotted this grey heron on a rock. OK, the truth was that at that distance, I was looking at something grey with the thickness of a few strands of hair. On a cloudy day.
