Stone throw

No stones were thrown in the making of this article. Man first threw stones. Then an enterprising person found that if you spun the stone in a pouch before you threw it, it flew even further.

That was the first sling.

Then another enterprising person found that if you attached a pole to the sling, you did not even need to spin the stone. You could just sling the rock at the target. This made it more useful for hunting or war. Try spinning the sling and see if your target is still stationary.

There is a limit to the length of your sling but your staff can be longer. You can use both arms.

And finally beat the enemy or prey to death with your staff.
