Great Expectations
A highly educated person made this suggestion.
On the surface, it looks easy (At least to me.) But I am tech, inquisitive, persistent and a scoundrel. But if you are not......
But even for tech, it is not smooth sailing. It is like saying Linus Torvald could create an OS, anyone can. That is why at least one of my devices is under warranty. I may need the internet to troubleshoot the other devices.
Sigh. It is art, music or other skills. It looks easy until you are the one with the disadvantages.
Mr Pyromania would like to suggest more hands on chemistry.
Just one more thing. You can put an iPad in your bag. Most of the good tech need a case with padding. Minimum, a padded envelope and careful placement of the tech.
Not to knock the originator of the idea. It is just that systems are more complicated. It is one thing to send thousands of kids to school with an iPad. But thousands of modern kids with R-Pi? Oh, instant logistics exercise. Not because it is heavy but because it is brittle. Troubleshoot iPad? Go to a Genius Bar for some opinion. R-Pi? Hope the parent's internet R&D skills are good.
