Successor!

A few things happen in the Year of the Boar. Or piggy for more conventional readers

First, my main camera died. (The power button is not doing what it has to do). Before anyone suggests the warranty, the camera is more than 2 years old and the warranty is good for only one year.

The first question is the backup. Yup, its predecessor is still "working". Struggling in my opinion but it is still functional. I would not depend on it as a long term solution. Canon is calling the predecessor to return home. Or to see the light.

There was an heir apparent. The new guy was supposed to be better in every way. There is a slight issue of size and weight. (Well, the good stuff has to go somewhere.) It was supposed to be the main camera except that its development was delayed by over a year. And it is double the price.

There is an issue when the price is used as an explanation. Almost all the competitors are more expensive. Moreover, as the successor has released, the original superzoom camera's price has fallen.

So stick with the old dog in a new body? Go with a new pet? Change to a different breed?
