Tasting smell

I use to think that I get all my facts right but I have learnt that the fact checking needs a lot to be worked on.
Like snakes taste with their tongue. It is true that their tongues are receiving the air molecules. But their sense of smell is in the same place as most animals. Mammals do it by curling back their front lips
Just like an elephant puts food or water in its mouth using its trunk. The trunk is more like a hand than a straw.
And the snake has a safe space for its tongue. When a snake bites, there is no tongue.
