Fact of the week: Nomenclature

I use to think that palm trees are a species. The type that produced palm oil. 

What a mistake. Cocnuts, dates and sago are all part of the palm tree family but they are all different.

So when we say palm oil, what we usually mean is the African oil palm. There are other oil producing palms but they have less yield.
